it translates very well but miss pronounced alot of words...like good moring which is a simple word .to bad cause it seemed like a good program

Great app if your trying to learn how to speak portugese, i recommended it to all in my portugese class.

This app is simply amazing. I can type whatever I want, as long as I want and it instantly translates it AND can speak it. If only ispeak had a Brazilian portuguese version!!

It is really usefull to have around when your trying to say something. It sounds like a computer when it tries to speak fast but I hope there speaking fixer- uppers when updates come out.

Ive been working with this program for about 2 hours. It works fine. Im traveling to Portugal and this is really going to help me. The best feature is that you can save phrases for future use, things like "Can I see a menu, please?", or "Do you speak English?", stuff that Ill really be needing. Ive already got about 30 phrases saved and ready for when I get to Lisbon. Also, you can vary the volume and the speaking speed. The default speed is a little fast but you can easily slow it down. The voice sounds great! Wow I cant believe this was only $1.99!! Im sold on these and will use the other languages as needed.

I missed the little asterisk that gave the real description of "no Internet needed" when I was reading about the app. I jumped all over it when I saw the no Internet connection needed and I wrongly assumed that it contained a large database or language engine judging by the size of the app ( easilly my largest iPhone app at almost 1/10 of a gigabyte!) I was pissed at first by the deceptive description, but I guess it is my fault for not reading carefully enough. The translations are no better than the free ones that also require internet connection.

The words are realtivly acurate the pronunciation to a few words is a little of but over all its amazing!

I hate giving poor reviews. I always try to find the good whenever possible. But I downloaded this application because I am flying to Portugal TOMORROW and I need something like this. But guess what. Every time I press "translate", it crashes. Nothing ever actually gets translated. Yes, I ran Scan and freed up memory. I restarted. Deleted and redownloaded the app. But no good. It no worky. I am guessing it does not work with OS 4.0. But there is no way to tell. Anyway, I am in Lisbon in 24 hours. So its wasted dollars for me. Beware folks. Wait for an upgrade or explanation.

Dose not work any more fix it.

As others have noted, it no longer works since upgrading to iOS 4. It will crash upon hitting the translate button.

Back to 5 stars !!! This update works perfect on IOS 4. Very nice upgrade to interface as well. I have just purchased your newly rolled-out languages too.

Allowed us to save translations of frequently used phrases and complicated directions/instructions that were unique to our situation. Great for taxi, bus, resturant, etc. Be aware that an Internet connection is required to perform the translation. Once translated the Internet is not needed for saved translations nor is it needed to speak translated text. I suggest anticipating and translating commonly used/needed words/phrases before you leave. Suggestion for a future release: Pre-load with translation of common words and phrases. If it were pre-loaded or would translate without an Internet connection. It would be 5 stars.

I have really enjoyed this app, Im able to save small phrases I try to use daily. My friends that speak the language fluently said it was a great app for me to have. So far no problems and hopefully I wont have any. "isso é ótimo, eu recomendo"

Why would you need an Internet connection for a translation software? Especially while abroad? Totally useless waste of money!!!! Id give less than one star if possible.

how about putting an option of translating for BRASILIAN Portuguese. my boyfriend is from brasil and now I cant really talk to his grandparents given the fact that this is only Portugal Portuguese. please consider :)

This translator is leaps and bounds better than another translator I recently and regrettably purchased for the same price. Not only is the text translated correctly, the voice engine/generator clearly and correctly pronounces the words. As a somewhat fluent speaker of Portuguese already (grew up learning Portuguese in parralell with English - parents were Azorean) this is exactly what I was looking for.

This a very useful app and well worth the money. Only trouble is the spoken translations play back VERY fast.

I just purchased and tested with my Brazilian-native wife. The translations are reasonably good, as is the pronunciation. However, for Brazilian ears, the speach synthesized is far too fast and difficult to understand. The good news is that Portuguese spelling is relatively phonetic. So if you read the translation yourself, most people will likely understand it. Developers - Congrats on a very useful app. Please add a speed control.
